Ceramic Daylights
The ceramic Daylight was born through the hands of my mother, out of a desire to capture the feeling of connection and support. In time more than a thousand Daylights have gone out into the world and have found a permanent or temporary place somewhere in a network of lights.
While writing the book 'The light of day' I began to see the deeper purpose of the Daylights and its potential to become a tool for healing, to find and embody our inner light. These days, my mother and I work together in her ceramics studio to make many Daylights.

Tinie van Zandwijk
The original maker of the Daylights
"For over 30 years, I have been in love with working with clay. Shaping by hand, I have created sculptures, bowls, spiritual masks and other art objects."
I love organic forms, so nature is my great source of inspiration.
"Working with clay invites me to express my feelings and thoughts and still them in form. The sculpture becomes a memory of that moment, supporting and often giving insight. A few years ago, when I was meeting a friend who was going through a difficult period, I wanted to give her something meaningful. At that moment, I made the first ‘Daylight.’
As I shaped and glazed it, I thought about the support I wished for her. When I gave it to her and she lit the light, she was very touched. This was a great gift to me. From then on, I have been making more Daylights for both people I know and people I don't know.
I think it is symbolically beautiful to bring as many lights into the world as possible and in this way light up the world, or someone's world."
The ‘Daylight’ is there to pass on when someone else might ‘need’ it more.
